Stratford-upon-Avon Town Twinning Association twinned with:
L'Isle Adam, France, and
Marbach-am-Neckar, Germany.
Our Twin Towns
Stratford first twinned with L'Isle Adam in the mid 1980s. This small town of around 11,300 people is situated some eighteen miles north of Paris on the banks of the Oise and boasts a riverside beach which is the largest in France. It is close to several major tourist attractions; Paris itself, Chantilly, and Giverny (Claude Monet's museum). Many impressionist painters such as Monet and Van Gogh, worked in the region. The novellist Belzac also has connections with this picturesque town.
Links were then established with Marbach-am-Neckar, (already twinned with L'Isle Adam), a small town near Stuttgart. Marbach is the birthplace of Schiller, the famous German poet and dramatist, who translated Shakespeare's Macbeth.
